Global PC shipments are expected to soar this year as the market continues its revival and orders increase.

According IT market analyst Gartner, projected PC shipments of 367.8 million will be achieved in 2010 - a 19.2 per cent increase on figures for 2009.

Ranjit Atwal, a research director at the firm, said that the revival in the PC market has been strong in the first half of the year, although growth is expected to decelerate in the final six months of 2010.

Mr Atwal said: "Businesses that delay replacing much longer risk alienating employees, burdening themselves with more service requests and support costs, and ultimately facing higher migration costs."

His comments reflect the increased uptake of next generation network technology and low latency connections by many businesses, which are putting increasing demand on desktop hardware.

Just last week Vertical Systems Group noted that business connectivity growth in the first six months of 2010 was particularly strong.
