Next generation network technology - in particular 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) - is already taking hold as the benefits of the new high bandwidth connectivity solution become clear.
According to Juniper Research, the US and Japan are leading the way when it comes to investing in the new wireless broadband technology and they are expected to be the first to benefit from the resulting revenues.
The market for 4G LTE expands to more than $200 billion by 2015, Juniper Research claims, and the IT analyst believes rolling out the technology in the UK is already a necessity - despite the fact Ofcom will not be auctioning the related electromagnetic-spectrum frequencies for some years.
Howard Wilcox, author of the new 4G LTE Revenue Opportunities report, said: "Our business modeling demonstrated that high traffic enterprise subscribers using web, email and video services will be the critical early adopter segment to benefit from LTE.
"There is an opportunity for premium pricing plans that will drive service revenues and the report shows this."
Recently, communications minister Ed Vaizey called for the end of net neutrality as he paved the way for a two-tiered internet where people and businesses would pay more for better service.
