Logistics group Deutsche Post DHL is set to benefit from BT's multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network through a new communications services agreement.

The company has signed a five-year agreement which will see it provided with third party vendor management, security services, fixed voice and data solutions interconnected by BT's MPLS technology.

Deutsche Post DHL's communications infrastructure based in the Asia Pacific region, which is currently operated across 15 countries, will benefit from the plans.

Ralf Weissbeck, managing director of IT services at the logistics firm, said it was particularly seeking transparency that would offer "a more accurate operational data and commercial billing infrastructure".

He added: "With its track record in managed services, BT demonstrated that they are in the best position to deliver such a large and complex project for DPDHL throughout Asia Pacific in a cost-effective way."

Communications provider Pannon recently boosted its MPLS network with the use of a new Alcatel-Lucent solution.
