Senior finance professionals in the UK are confused about cloud computing, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by document management solutions author Version One indicates two-thirds of managers in this position do not know what cloud computing is, while 37 per cent said their company does not use the technology.
General manager of the group Julian Buck commented: "Despite all the recent hype about cloud computing, this research reveals that many finance professionals are still confused about what on earth it is!"
He went on to say that in his opinion the 'cloud' is the infrastructure which allows an internet-based application to operate.
Mr Buck added, however, that until there is a definitive understanding of the technology, confusion will continue to reign.
Last week, studies by NTT Europe suggested cloud computing is not a high priority for managed hosting providers, with 32 per cent of firms unsure whether they will adopt the technology during the next two years.
